Penguins reproduce by laying eggs, like all birds. Most penguins mate in large colonies. They breed when food supplies are highest. Males arrive at the breeding site early to secure a nesting spot. To attract a mate, a male waves their wings/flippers, and calls out to the females. The females then choose a male, most likely one with more weight to withstand fasting while incubating the egg, and they mate. Most successful "couples" mate for life.
